About Scholarship
Applications for President's Fellowships to study in Japan are being accepted by Hokkaido University. The President's Fellowship at Hokkaido University is available to all international students worldwide pursuing master's and doctoral degrees in Japan. Hokkaido University does not require the TOFEL or IELTS in order to offer scholarships. Hokkaido University offers postgraduate degree programs in nearly every academic discipline and major.

Application Charges
Stipend every month: 100,000 yen. (The enrollment month pays 220,000 yen (70,000 yen for research students) in addition to the monthly stipend, with an extra 35,000 yen paid in April and October.)

During the scholarship period, students can live on campus
Scholarships Duration:
Master's Degree: Two years
Professional Degree in Accounting and Public Policy: Two years
Professional Degree in Law: Three years
PhD Degree: Three years
PhD Degree in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Infectious Diseases, or Clinical Pharmacy: Four years.
Documents Required:
An application for the Hokkaido University President’s Fellowship must be completed (Download Form). Prior to submitting your application, it is essential to reach out to your prospective supervisor to discuss your research topic and plan.
Additionally, obtain a consent letter from your prospective supervisor.
Academic transcripts are required; both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree transcripts must be submitted for PhD applications.
A recommendation letter from a supervisor at your university is also necessary (there is no specific format required).
Furthermore, the president of your university must issue an official candidacy letter addressed to the President of Hokkaido University.
Eligibility Criteria for Scholarship in Japan:
Students currently enrolled or alumni from universities that have established Inter University Exchange Agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding on Student Exchange with Hokkaido University are eligible to apply. However, those who are already attending Hokkaido University cannot apply for this fellowship.
Applicants must be self-funded and should not be receiving any other fellowships or scholarships while studying at Hokkaido University. It is recommended that students who rank in the top 25% of their class at their home university apply, and they must provide documentation signed by the university's President as proof.
